My spiritual journey is pretty rough at the moment. Has God ordained this or has He deserted me?

Thank you for your question regarding your current situation.

God will never desert his people.

Consider this verse:
"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one." (John 10:27-29)

If you feel distant from God there is probably another reason for this. Is there any hidden wrong in your life that you need to confess? Are you spending quality time with God? Reading his word? Praying? Having fellowship with other believers at the Church?

Sometimes God's people can go through ups and downs for no apparent reason. If you cannot identify a reason it may be a spiritual battle taking place or it may just be a part of life. Read through the Psalms and see the conflict that God's people have. They cry out to God for answers!

Please do not blame God. Consider these passages:

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing (James 1:2-4).

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. (James 1:12-17).

God may bring certain trials into our lives to produce steadfastness, but he will not bring sin or evil into our lives. This is the difference between a nasty and cruel father who beats his children, and a father who loves his children and will discipline them in love to show them a better way.

I encourage you to pray to God, read his word, have fellowship with other Christians, that you may see a change in your situation. Your spiritual journey may be rough at the moment, but it can and will change, and we believe that you will feel closer to God. Know in your whole life that he has not deserted you, but he loves you.
