I am living in a Muslim country. How can I be a Christian and when I am not allowed to practice my faith?

Thank you so much for your spiritual enquiry.

When God saves us, He makes us part of the body of Christ, the church. In these last days, for two thousand years, the members of this living body have taken solace, delight, comfort, and courage from being both spirituality united together and physically being with one another and fellowship.

As a hand would wither and die if cut off from the rest of the body, so the true believer then, often wilts and falls and fails and gets sick at heart when cut of from the gathering of other believers.

We are so sorry that you are going through this and feeling so lost and alone in your faith. Yet, even these deep expressions of sadness, even in these cries from your desert, your daily longings to be with other believers are in fact to you a sure sign of your being found in Jesus Christ and belonging to Him. May God send you the comfort of the fellowship of other believers and where this is not possible, may He grant you the comfort of His special manifest presence with you.

Remember though, that despite your felt dismemberment, you are in fact very much still part of the body of Christ and a vital part of it at that. Your ministry to the body through prayer could have a profound impact upon it, for your prayers for the rest of the Christian family may make be used to the glory of God.

In your ‘chains’, remember me, please remember us, that we who are free would be bold in our proclamation of Christ our Saviour. Christians all around the world need your prayers.

I encourage you to take your Bible and to read it passionately. Study it as much as you can. You have obviously asked this question via the Internet, so do make full use of it. There are a multitude of great Christian teachers and fellowships on-line. I know these are no real substitute for face to face fellowship, but they can be to you a spiritual life source.

In summary then, read the Bible and please pray for us. Allow me to close in saying that I'm sure everyone who reads this answer will pray for you straight away, that your faith would not fail and that you would know the comfort and power of God in your wilderness. Meanwhile, I look forward to meeting you soon, even face to face, with all the redeemed at the marriage supper of the Lamb.

Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say. But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, for I trust that through your prayers I shall be granted to you. Farewell. Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you, as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow labourers. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.(Philemon 21-25)

Here are some more Bible Verses for your further consideration:

  • Philippians 1:8-30
  • 2 Corinthians 4:8-18
