Ask a questionQ & A
I can't hear God and I feel distant from him lately. I feel discouraged that friends are leaving the church I go to for bigger churches. How can I get back to God?
Thank you for asking such a personal question. I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time and that you do not feel close to God. I hope that this short answer will encourage you.
Firstly I would like encourage you to put the truth of the Bible first above how you may feel. Our feelings change from day to day, hour to hour, but the truth that God loves you will never change. No matter how we may feel we need to trust that what God has said is true. He will never leave us or forsake us if we have trusted in Him through Christ.
The sad news is that people move around from Church to Church or from being close to God or not, mostly due to feelings. I would like to encourage you to stay at the Church where you have grown as a Christian. Speak to the leaders there about your situation and ask them to pray with and for you and your friends.
God will never leave us no matter how we feel. We may sometimes turn away from God, but he will never let us go, and we can always turn back to him. Our friends may turn away from us, but God never will.
Be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not fear;
what can man do to me?”
Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings.
There is no special formula to get back to God. You simply need to acknowledge him by faith. Turn away from any wrong you are doing and back to God. Confess your need and love for him. Thank him for what he has done and pray that he will help you through his hard time.
The Christian life is not easy. We are in a battle. The good news is that Jesus wins! Keep walking with him and enjoy life with him!
