Ask a questionQ & A
Why are humans the only living thing to have a god? There are so many different religions - how can they all be right? My father died when I was young and I can't believe that a god would allow that to happen.
Thank you for sharing your story and asking some questions. I hope to answer them from the Bible which I believe to be God's inspired words to us.
Firstly I am sorry to hear about your Father passing away when you were so young. Instead of blaming God for this I would encourage you to ask him for peace. God is not the cause of death or pain. God is the author of life (Acts 3:15) and grace.
The reason there is pain and suffering in the world is because people turn away from God and do their own thing. The Bible calls this sin, which is essentially doing the opposite of what God has asked us to do. God wants us to know his love and guidance in life, but instead we often go our own ways.
God has made a way for there to be no more pain or suffering. In Heaven there will be perfect peace forever as we will be with God as he has always intended man to be.
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new" (Revelation 21:3-5)
The problem is how we get there. The sin we are immersed in has caused a divide between us and God. The Good News is that Jesus died to give us new life and forgive us for the wrong we have done. If we trust in Him we can have new life now and for eternity.
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:9-13)
We are special in creation as we are made in the image of God. We are unique in this way unlike all of the other animals. We love, we feel pain emotionally as well as physically, we have a conscience, but all other animals do not. We will live forever because we have a soul. There will be animals in the new creation as the Bible describes some being in heaven, but they are obviously different to humans. This of course does not mean humans should ever be cruel to animals, we should love and care for them where possible, but it explains why we are different.
All other religions are different to Christianity because of grace. The Christian faith teaches that God gives us what we do not deserve through Jesus Christ. He forgives us and loves us even though we deserve wrath because of the wrong we have done. All other religions teach some form of karma or some similar system where if you do good, then god (or gods) will be good to you. Christianity teaches that you can never be good enough for God, but he has made a way for us to be made right with God through the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I personally believe that Christianity is the only true way to know God. As Jesus himself said:
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6)
