Question

I have made some mistakes in my life including leaving my husband for another man and terminating our baby. I still think about it even though it was many years ago. Will God forgive me for the terrible things I have done?

Answer

Thank you for sharing your personal situation. I am sorry to hear that you have had to experience these, as your have put it, terrible things in your life.

I have spoken to a few different people who have experienced the loss of a child through medical complications or abortions. They always say that the memory comes back to them daily/weekly. This may not be something that ever goes away.

There are examples in the Bible of people like King David. He had an illegitimate child with the wife of another man. He made sure that the other man died in his battle. Sadly the child also died. David continued to trust God and pray through the tough time and knew God's forgiveness afterwards.

God also knows what it is like to lose a child. He was separated from his own Son Jesus, who died.

However the good news is that God can and will forgive anyone for anything if they truly turn to Him through Jesus Christ.

Jesus came and lived a perfect life. He died on the cross to take the punishment for the wrong we have done. If we believe Jesus died for us then we are forgiven. He buried our sin and can give us new life because he rose again.

Jesus asked God to forgive the people who were killing him.

Paul, one of the Apostles, killed people, but God forgave him.

Jesus also spoke about new life and forgiveness to the woman at the well who had many husbands. You can read about this in John chapter 4.

Jesus can forgive anyone. The Bible says:

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:9-13)

There are no exclusions.

If you are truly sorry for the things you have done wrong, turn to Jesus today. You can find out more about what Jesus has done for you by watching the video on the main part of our website: www.lookingforGod.com
