Ask a questionQ & A
I have asked Jesus into my heart but nothing seems to have happened.
Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have taken a step of faith to 'ask God into your heart' but also wonder what you may have expected to happen.
In the Bible we are told that we should:
Confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame" (Romans 10:9)
The term 'asking Jesus into your heart' is not found in the Bible. I would encourage you to watch our video on the main webpage and consider praying the prayer on the Simple Prayer page.
We must recognise that we have sinned against God, that Jesus died for our sin, that he buried it, that he rose again to give us new and eternal life. To say Jesus is Lord is to make him Lord over your life. The things that should change is the Holy Spirit dwells bodily in you, your place in heaven is secured, your adoption in Christ is accomplished. You will probably not see or feel any changes. These things are eternal and internal.
As a follower of Christ you should want to live like him, serve him and follow him. The Holy Spirit will guide you in these ways.
I want to encourage you to find a local Church and talk with the leaders there about your issues. If you have any further questions please feel free to get back in touch.
