Ask a questionQ & A
How can I truly believe in Jesus Christ? I feel like satan is placing doubt and confusion in my mind.
Thank you for your question about believing in Jesus. This is one of the most important questions anyone can ask.
You say you want to believe in Christ, but our enemy satan is placing confusion and doubts in your mind. You are, of course, completely correct in this observation.
Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)
There is indeed a cosmic battle of confusion to keep people ‘in the dark’ concerning Jesus, the Saviour of their souls.
From our point of view, the antidote to this spirit of the age, this great confusion, is the simplicity of child like faith. God said it, so we believe it; do not underestimate the power of the simplicity of the Gospel.
In the end it comes down to one thing: are the Scriptures true? Are they the Word of God to us? If they are, then believe the Gospel! This is faith, this is submission to the revealed will of God in Jesus that you might believe and be saved.
From God’s point of view, it is His Holy Spirit that both convicts us and converts us. We are born by His Spirit; He Himself recreates us as a new creature in Christ Jesus.
In summary then, how do we know when we truly believe in Jesus Christ?
When with child like faith we believe the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, that God’s only begotten Son came and died a sinner's death in my place and that by believing in Him, I receive salvation and that by confessing this fact through the waters of baptism I advertise the fact to the world and to my own soul as well.
