Ask a questionQ & A
What does the bible say about becoming a Christian and the Christian life?
Thank you for your great set of questions.
The good news is that it is very easy to become a Christian! Jesus said that he came to save:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned" (John 3:16-18)
Jesus came to live a perfect life for us.
We have not lived a perfect life. The things we do wrong separates us from a Holy God. If we believe Jesus died for the punishment we deserve and accept him as our saviour then we are forgiven.
Jesus rose again to conquer sin and death for us and become Lord.
If we believe that Jesus rose to new life and accept him as our Lord he gives us new life.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to give us the promise of eternal life.
In summary, if you believe Jesus died to forgive you, and rose again to give you new life, then confess your sins to Him and ask for forgiveness. Here is a Scripture that promised Jesus will save you:
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame". (Romans 10:9-11)
Cry out to Jesus to forgive you and give you new life!
The second part is a little more complicated. The Bible is essentially full of what it means to live the Christian life. If I were to describe it all to you I would need to quote the whole Bible! Therefore I would encourage a new Christian believer to read the Bible with other Christians at a local Church. The Christian life is about prayer, Bible, church, loving our neighbours, growing in the spiritual gifts God has given us, enjoying life with God, knowing we are free in Christ, sharing God's love with others, to name a few. There are hundreds of things that the Bible says the Christian life is about. I want to encourage you to get along to a local Church!
I do hope this general answer to your question goes some way to helping you find peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. If you want to know more about what Jesus has done for you please watch the video on the main part of our site: www.lookingforGod.com
In closing, I want to encourage you to get more involved with your local church. It would be good to speak to a Christian leader or another trusted church individual regarding your question. I know they would be delighted to further answer you as well as offer prayer and support as you continue your spiritual journey:
