Question

What was the whole point of creation? The end of the earth will happen so why create it in the first place? Does God know how it is going to end?

Answer

Thank you for this very interesting question. I hope that this short answer will at least provide you with a Christian understanding of why I believe God created.

Firstly it is important to state that God was complete before creation. The Bible teaches: "The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything." (Acts 17:24-25)

God doesn’t need anything to make himself happy or fulfilled. In himself, he is fully happy.

Why is this? God is a Trinity. Although there is one God he is made up of three persons. This may be difficult to get our head around, but the result of this is that in himself God has enough love. The Father, the Son and the Spirit love each other for eternity; he had no need of anything else. So when he created us, it wasn’t as a needy or lonely God who required something from us.

So why did he create us? He created us so that we might share in the love that he had. The relationship God has was too good to not be shared. He sought to share that love with each of his created beings. His reason for creating us was not for his own good. Rather it was for us to share in his good.

Sadly the human race, over thousands of years have disobeyed God, turned their backs on Him and corrupted the world we now live in. We have taken God's good creation and made it bad in many ways. Therefore the current creation as we know it will come to an end, because it is broken.

This is why God is going to RE-create a new earth.

I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
And he who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this down, for these words are true and trusted" (Revelation 21:3-5).

We can know for certain that we can be part of the new creation by trusting in Christ. Jesus Christ came to make us right with God. He lived a perfect live and died in our place for the wrong we had done. Jesus took the punishment for our sin so that we don't have to. Now, when Christians die, they are recreated as part of the new heaven and earth, where there will be no more suffering and pain.

I cannot answer the BIG question you have asked about why did God did all of this when he knew what would happen... but I do believe it will happen and therefore encourage you to turn to Christ for forgiveness and new life.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself (2 Corinthians 5:17-18).
