Questions & answers    RELATIONSHIPS    Divorce & Separation

I am going through a painful divorce after many years of marriage. I am struggling with life, I see little hope and have anxiety about God.

Thank you for sharing your life experience. I am sorry to hear about your painful divorce and struggles in life.

The reason divorce is so painful is what it represents. Marriage was given by God as a way for man and woman to live together and build a family for life. But it represents something bigger. The first ever type of marriage was between God and his people. All human marriages since are mirror images of what God's relationship with people is like.

Every time a marriage breaks up, it is painful because it also echoes how people separate from God.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:31-32) [emphasis added]

God is not to be blamed for your marriage break up or struggles in life. God wants to help you through them and for you to find peace with Him. He loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for us so we can be made right with God. This is good news. Jesus died in our place for our sin, he buried it and rose again to give us new life. This new life also includes becoming part of the bride of Christ.

Trust in Christ and find peace with God. We then are in effect married to God. He will never leave us of forsake us. Do not be anxious about God. He wants to take away your anxiety and fear, not be the cause of it.

I do hope this general answer to your question goes some way to helping you find peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. If you want to know more about what Jesus has done for you please watch the video on the main part of our site:
