My faith has gone because I have just lost my father.

Thank you for sharing your need for help at this most difficult time. We are sorry for your loss. The loss of a loved one, especially a close relative like a father, can be a very sad time for anyone who experiences it. It is normal to feel sad and shows that we are made in God's own image; the fact that we care about each other shows that we are made with emotions like God.

Instead of turning away from God in hard situations through life can I encourage you to turn closer to God. He is not the cause of suffering and pain but he wants to comfort you through it. God is there for us in our times of need.

There is a passage in the Bible that speaks directly into this situation. It says: you have been the helper of the fatherless (Psalm 10:14)

We are not to blame God for things that happen on earth, even if it is the death of a loved one; it is not God's fault. God is called our Father if we have faith in him through Jesus Christ. He wants to be there for us as a Father. He is a Father to the fatherless. Even if we lose our earthly father, God the Father is always there for us:

Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. (Psalm 68:5)

The Bible says: for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 1 Corinthians 8:6)

God also knows how hard it is to lose a loved one. His own Son Jesus Christ died and he was separated from the Father for us. Jesus died for us in our place so that we never have to be apart from the Father.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life". (John 3:16)

It is also important to note that death is part of life because of sin. We need to get right with God through faith in what Jesus has done for us.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

In many ways we need to expect death to come into our lives, to us personally one day, and also to everyone we know and love. Sadly death is a part of life because we have all sinned. God wants to be with us through life and death and in the life to come. We can all know eternal life with God when we die through having our sin forgiven by Jesus' death and resurrection.

Faith comes through hearing the word of God and so I want to encourage you to get involved with a local Church that can encourage you in the word of God. Also it is important for you to pray to God and read the Bible for yourself.

In summary it is important not to blame God or lose faith when bad things happen, but to turn to God for help. He is our helper and comfort if we have faith in him through Jesus.
