Ask a questionQ & A
I'm struggling to connect with God even though I have been reading the bible and attending church. Do I have the Holy Spirit in me?
Thank you so much for your honest spiritual enquiry about connecting with God.
My quick answer would be: Have you been praying? Have you asked God the Holy Spirit to speak to you? I hope that you have but if not, then try it!
The fact that you are struggling to connect with God is both a good sign and a sign post.
Your struggle to connect with God is a good sign that God is at work in you, for this is not the normal action of the natural man. Despite the fact that God has put eternity in our hearts, we in and of ourselves neither seek God nor want Him.
As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God". (Romans 3:10-11)
Our struggle to connect with God is a sign that His Holy Spirit is at work in you drawing you to Himself. God is calling you. Be of good cheer!
Your struggle to connect with God might also be a signpost that you are not yet connected with Him! If this is the case, then get this fixed right now. Confess all of your sins to Him, repent of them, believe that Christ died for them and then ask Him to make you His. When you do this you will know that you belong to Him and that a forgiving and glorious connection has at last been made by the placing of the Holy Spirit within you (2 Corinthians 1:22).
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand. I and My Father are one." (John 10:27-30)
In summary, make sure that you are right with God by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. When you are a believer, the Holy Spirit lives inside of you, as a guarantor of the good work that has happened in you. All our good works are never enough for us to connect with God; it is only through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross.
