Ask a questionQ & A
A prophecy was given to me recently, and part of it was that I need to learn the names of God. I can't find anywhere that has an answer. Can you help?
Thank you for your interesting question. I believe the reason that you cannot find a book, app or website regarding the prophecy is that this is quite a unique situation to find yourself in. I have been going to church for many years and not heard of anything like this before.
There is obviously nothing wrong with learning the different names that God reveals of himself in the Bible. These are actually good things to know. However if you hope to learn them and for something special to occur because of this then I find that hard to match up with what the Bible teaches about prophecy.
The bible says regarding prophecy:
The one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation (1 Corinthians 14:3)...When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up (1 Corinthians 14:26)
It seems from your statement that the prophecy is causing you concern or worry. This may mean that the prophecy was not given from God. The bible also says that we should test every word that is given to make sure it is from God. Ideally the church leaders should pray into this with you:
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged, and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. For God is not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:29-33).
Please consider this and remember that God is not a God of confusion but peace. Ultimately I want to make sure you are involving your local Church leaders in this subject and asking them to pray and test the prophecy with you.
