Who is Jesus? Please give me a short summary.

Thank you so much for your spiritual enquiry about Jesus. This is a wonderful question and there is nothing of greater importance!

There are 66 Books in the Bible which contain pictures of Jesus. Of these, 4 Books specifically portray for us the life of Christ on earth, (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and the last book of the bible, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, tells of His life ‘in glory’, in heaven, in ‘the age to come’. So, if you were to put together all of the Word of God and all the stories and books written about the works of the living Lord Jesus in people’s lives over the last two thousand years, it’s not unreasonable to repeat a verse in the Bible which says:

And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen. (John 21:25)

In the light of such a mountain of revelation and testimony regarding the person, words and works of Jesus Christ the Lord throughout space and time, we could ask:

How do you write a short summary of the most important person that ever lived?

It could be possible to quote a portion of a longstanding and widely accepted summary of Christian belief; the Nicene creed which was put together in 325 AD by many of the important Christians leaders from the known world. A large portion says:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

In summary, may I say, that there is no better summary of who Jesus is! However, it remains but words on a page unless it is applied to your life. So, I say to you now, Jesus, as a man, died in YOUR place, for YOUR sins, making payment for them in full satisfaction of God the Father, the judge of all men. Jesus then, being God, infinite and eternal, made the sacrifice for YOUR sins of infinite value and eternal length. In other words, Christ died for YOUR sins, once and for all of them, for all time.

Today, I encourage you to turn from your life of sin and believe this great news, confessing before Him your belief in His sacrifice and humbly receiving His most gracious pardon of your sins through Jesus Christ the Lord. The apostle’s great and consistent cry and the churches great proclamation, even today, is ‘escape the wrath which is coming’ by being found eternally safe in Jesus.

Here are some more Bible Verses for your further consideration:

  • Acts 16:31
  • Romans 4:24-5:2
  • Romans 10:9
