Ask a questionQ & A
What does God actually want from Man?
Thank you for your question. The matter of what God wants from man is an important one, and I am glad you have asked it.
First God wants to have a relationship with man. The way that we can know God and have that relationship with him is through Jesus Christ; Jesus came to die for us. He forgives us the wrong that separates us from knowing God. Through faith in Jesus' death and resurrection we are given a new life with God.
God wants man to seek Him with all of their lives:
Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God (1 Chronicles 22:19). Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near (Isaiah 55:6). If you seek him, he will be found by you (1 Chronicles 28:9).
Then, once you are in a relationship with God, He wants us to please Him. What pleases God? A lot of things - but here are a few:
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him (Hebrews 11:6). So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10). Not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart (Ephesians 6:6). For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit (Romans 8:5). Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God (Hebrews 13:16). Try to discern out what pleases Him! (Ephesians 5:10). He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
Lastly, He wants us to love Him and others.
And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)
This is what God wants from Man. To seek Him, to put our faith in Him and to love Him. When you have these, the other things become part of it.
