Ask a questionQ & A
When will I get pregnant and have a child?
Thank you so much for contacting us with your question. I am glad that you are searching for wisdom from God about this important matter. You can be sure that God cares about your problems and is interested in helping you.
The Bible says that children are a precious gift from God.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. (Psalm 127:3)
You do not explain about your circumstances but I assume that you are married and want to start a family. Of course, it is God's will that children are brought up within the security of a family, with a mother and father to care for them. I do hope that this is true for you and that you are in a position to bring up a child in obedience to God's will.
Each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. (1 Corinthians 7:1)
Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24)
It is possible that there is an underlying medical condition that is preventing you from having children. We therefore recommend that you speak to a doctor or another medical professional regarding your situation. They may be able to conduct tests to be able to find and therefore solve such a medical condition.
The Bible says that God delights to give children to His servants.
He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord! (Psalm 113:9)
God loves His children even more than human parents love their children. He gave His only Son to die for us, taking the punishment for our sins. If we repent of the wrong things we have done, confessing them to God, and put our trust in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, we will be forgiven, saved from hell and brought into God's family.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13)
God longs for you to be His child, just as you long for a baby of your own. Have you trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? If so, you know that you can trust Him to hear your prayers and do what is best for you.
Sometimes, God makes us wait for an answer to our prayers because, while we are waiting, we learn to trust Him more.
We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. (Romans 5:3-5)
If you have prayed for a baby and God does not seem to be answering, then God is forming character in you through this time of waiting. This is because He is making you into someone who can live in Heaven with Him forever. Will you trust Him as you wait for His answer?
Jesus said, "I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me." (John 5:30)
It is also possible that children are not in God's plan for you. Perhaps He wants you to love other people's children or to do work for Him which you could not do if you had children. If so, are you willing to accept His will and even thank Him for it? Once we put everything into His hands and surrender to His will, we are in a place where God can really use and bless us.
There are many stories in the Bible about people who prayed for a child and had to wait a long time for an answer. Abraham and Sarah waited for many years, even though God had promised them many descendants. By the time their son, Isaac, was born, they had surrendered to God's will and were ready to be blessed with a child and bring him up to serve God.
Another person who prayed for a son was Hannah, in 1 Samuel 1. She, too, waited a long time for God's answer, but in the end she gave birth to the great prophet and leader, Samuel. God blessed her with a fine son in answer to her prayers. I pray that He will do the same for you and give you a fine son or daughter.
The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:5-7)
In summary, God loves you and you can safely trust Him and commit yourself to do His will. Keep praying and trusting Him to answer in the best possible way. He is teaching you and training you to reign with Him in Heaven.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1 Peter 1:6)
