Ask a questionQ & A
Does God ever share with us what is going to happen to us personally?
Thank you so much for your honest spiritual enquiry about God's plan and purpose.
If we belong to Christ, that is, if we have put our complete trust and hope in Him for salvation, then He has promised "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
God has not left us alone to struggle in this world, He has given us the Holy Spirit to be our comforter and guide (John 14:26). Our heavenly Father has also promised that if we commit our way to Him, He will direct our steps. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
God can and often does speak in a personal way to each of His children. The Lord Jesus certainly shared individual future events on the earth with His disciples. Peter for example, was told regarding his betrayal of Christ and also, the nature of his death. We can see this in Matthew 26:33 and John 21:18-19. Also, the apostle Paul said that "...the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that chains and tribulations await me." (Acts 23:20).
The Lord Jesus also had much to say to His disciples about future events, and indeed of all those who would come after them, which for many would involve hardship and persecution. For example, Jesus said "You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved." (Matthew 10:18)
Scripture also tells us that God has equipped all of His saints with everything they need to live a godly life while here on earth, now and in the future. His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises (2 Peter 1:2-4). And Ephesians 2:10 tells us For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Almighty God in His sovereign will, has also prepared and planned with our eternal futures in mind. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified (Romans 8:28-30).
God’s ultimate plan for all believers is that as we walk in the Spirit and yield ourselves to Him, He is changing us to look like His Son, and one day we will reign with Him as joint heirs with Christ. If children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together (Romans 8:17).
In summary then, God directs us personally through the Word and His Spirit; He has equipped us now with all we need to live for Him and revealed His ultimate plan is to conform us to the image of Christ. We believe that God can speak to you through the power of His Holy Spirit and reveal great truths to you. Why not spend some time in prayer now and ask Him?
