If God revealed his name to Moses, why do Christians use so many different names for God?

Thank you for asking your interesting question about the name of God in other languages.

Throughout the world today there are an estimated 2 billion people who are following the God of the Bible. Of these, there will be millions of languages and dialects, each with their own local phrases and terms.

Groups of people throughout history have used different words to describe God, but this is not the same as changing his name.

What is clear is that whatever people may call God, whatever terms they may use to describe him, God himself does not change.

Throughout the bible there are many names that the writers use to refer to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.;

God is called LORD throughout the Old Testament (for example Genesis 2:4), he calls himself "I am who I am" in Genesis 3:14, yet then calls himself "God almighty" in Genesis 17:1. Solomon calls God the "God of Israel" in 2 Chronicles 6:4 and Jesus calls him the Father in John 20:17.

In all of these cases, and many more that we could mention, God remains the same.

What remains true is that God loves us and has made a way for us to be united with him by sending Jesus, the eternal Son of God, to be a ransom for us. What matters is not what you call God, but whether or not you have put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. Through his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, Jesus has made a way for us to be reconciled to God.

If you have never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, I implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:20). Place your trust in him to save you.

In summary, there are many biblical words and phrases to describe God, but God himself does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever and has made a way for us to be united with him through Jesus' death on the cross.
