Ask a questionQ & A
How do we know that God is the only and right god? There are many religions that believe in gods, so why is the God is the bible and Christianity correct?
Thanks for this great question. It is encouraging that you want to know whether or not to trust the God of the bible.
Regarding other religions I think one of the most powerful differences between Christianity and the others is this: All other religions teach a form of karma. If you are good, God (or the gods) will be good to you. If you are bad, God (or the gods) will be bad to you.
The Christian faith teaches that no one is good, we have all messed up, but God gives us new life by grace; we cannot earn it. We must acknowledge that we have messed up, that Jesus died and rose again for us to be forgiven.
How can anyone ever earn their way to God? It is impossible. The bible tells us that Jesus is the only way to God.
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).
It is also useful to look into the history of the Christian faith. It is built upon the Old Testament (Hebrew / Jewish) scriptures. It is regarded as the oldest and largest religion in the world. There are estimated to be 2 billion Christians alive today in the world. It is one of the only religions to cover over 95% of the countries in the world.
The truth is that we can never convince anyone about God. He is the one who saves people. It is however my hope that you will continue to ask questions regarding trusting God and that, through the Holy Spirit, you will come to recognise Jesus as Lord and Saviour, and make a repentance of your sin and put your trust in him.
