Ask a questionQ & A
I want to know the path to eternity and follow it.
Thanks for your question about salvation.
I am glad to hear that you desire to know the path to eternal life. I have good news for you!
God the Father has sent His Son Jesus Christ, to make a way for us to be reconciled with God from whom life flows. He has made a way to bring us from death to life through the work of Jesus on the cross! As Jesus himself said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6)
The ‘through me’ that Jesus speaks of is important, because throughout the world we can see many millions of people that are trying to earn their way into heaven.
However, God tells us through the Bible that we cannot earn our way into heaven, we have all failed to meet God's perfect standard! There is no one perfect, not even one (Romans 3:10). Regardless of race, gender, age or location, everyone has done something wrong during their life. Everyone has transgressed God's law and are condemned to death and judgement. Whether the wrong doing is considered small by human standards, such as a lie, or larger, even murder, everyone has done something wrong against God however hard we try to do good and live a good life.
As God is Holy, transgressors cannot be in his presence and therefore must be judged. It is God we have wronged by not acknowledging Him King over our lives and by breaking His law for us. The sins we have committed act like a barrier between us and God and so we are 'dead in our sins'. Actually, without the power of Jesus working in your life it is impossible to please God! If we know the Son we know the Father.
The good news is that Jesus came to rescue and be the sacrificial atonement for us, because God loved us before we ever knew Him! He lived a perfect life, He bore our sins and stood in our place by laying down his life for us; dying on the cross. On Him was laid all of our iniquities – past, present and future. He rose from the dead and is alive with the Father interceding for those who trust Him, because He lives so they live forever with Him!
The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23)
The gift of eternal life is free and available to all who are willing to repent and turn to Jesus. It cannot be earned, but by trusting in what Jesus did we may receive His righteousness and be accepted by God.
So why is it not automatically granted to people? If we think of Christmas, gifts are already bought for people, but they have not opened the gift until they pick it up and unwrap it. In a similar way, the gift of salvation through Christ is available to everyone, but it requires us to take hold of the gift and receive Jesus as King over your life!
It is a sad truth to think that a loving God would send people to hell as it was prepared as a place of judgement for satan and his demons and not for mankind and that's why He sent His own beloved Son to take our place and give us a hope. God must carry out his justice otherwise He would be unfair. Indeed, every person is without excuse (Romans 1:20), as God’s power can be seen throughout creation; a person can see His handiwork and evidence of His providence. Unless we enter by Christ then we will come under judgement and God's wrath against sin.
Accepting God's grace removes sin from our lives through the blood of Jesus and His righteousness is imputed to us to make us right in God’s sight. As Isaiah 1:18 tells us come, let us reason together, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool. If you want to know the path of eternity, it begins by accepting the free gift of from God.
