How can I find God and let Jesus into my life?

Thank you so much for your question about how to find God and let Jesus into your life. This is the most important question that anyone could ask, and so it’s great that you’re looking for an answer.

The Bible tells us that finding God isn’t a matter of clever arguments or superior intellect. We could spend all day debating the existence of God, and all the different religious ideas that people have had, but in the end, what we need is for God to make himself known to us, to reveal himself to us.

This is exactly what God has done! God came into the world in the person of Jesus Christ. The Bible refers to a person called the Word, who is God himself:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1).

And then a few verses we are told the amazing news that

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory… (John 1:14).

God came into the world so that we could know him!

But we don’t live in 1st century Israel, where Jesus was, and we can’t meet or touch Jesus, so you might be wondering how you can know God today?

God has been good to us – he has given us the Bible (also called the Word!) so that we can read about who Jesus is and what he has done. And the Bible is no ordinary book – it is a book inspired by God himself that God uses to speak to us today.

So if you want to know God, a good way to start is by reading one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John), which are biographies of Jesus’ life. Jesus said,

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8).

So as you read the Bible, ask God to reveal himself through its words and pages, and he promises that he will do so.

In the book of John, Jesus described himself as ‘the Good Shepherd’.

"I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." (John 10:11).

This was why Jesus came to the earth – to lay down his life for us. But why? You and I are naturally separated from God because of our sin, the wrong things that all of us do, say and think. Jesus came to earth not just to make himself known to us, but also to pay the penalty for our sins, removing the barrier between us and God.

He also said,

"My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand." (John 10:27-28)

So as you hear his voice in the Bible, he calls you to follow him. That means trusting him and obeying him, knowing that he loves you and laid down his life for you.

In summary, if you are looking to find God and let Jesus into your life, he reveals himself to us today through the pages of the Bible. So read it, remembering the promise:

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8).

Here are some more Bible verses for your further consideration:

Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst." (John 6:35)
For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:13)
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:30-31)
