How do I live a holy life?

Thank you for this great question about how to live a holy life. It is good to want to be holy as God says: "You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy." (Leviticus 19:2)

The first thing to say is that it is impossible to live a holy life without Jesus' help. The whole story of the Bible can be summed up by describing how man has failed to keep God's perfect standards time and time again, so we need God's help.

Jesus came to show us how to live a perfect life and to forgive us for not doing so. Before we can attempt to live any sort of holy life, we need Jesus' new life. On the cross Jesus died to give us a new life so we can have God's help to be holy. We must die to our old way of life and completely surrender our new life to Jesus.

Once we are made right with God through faith in Jesus Christ, then we can follow Jesus and live a holy life with his help, and the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says we need to abide in him and follow his teachings.

We are made holy through faith in Christ; we live a holy life by following Christ.

I would like to encourage you to read the Gospel of John and then the letter of 1 John.
