Ask a questionQ & A
How long will I feel sad and alone?
Thank you for asking such a personal and deep question. Without knowing more detail regarding your personal situation that is causing you to feel sad and alone it is hard to answer specifically.
It is possible that you feel alone for a variety of reasons, and without knowing your situation, we are not able to comment specifically. Regardless as to your situation, there are some encouraging passages in the Bible that speak into your circumstances as well as those who have lost someone near and dear to them.
Firstly it is encouraging for us to know that if we have a relationship with God then he can help us when we a lonely and sad. One of the writers of the Psalms wrote:
My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Consider my affliction and my trouble, and forgive all my sins. (Psalms 25:15-18)
The way we get right with God is through having our sins forgiven by faith in Jesus' death and resurrection. Jesus said this:
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)
Secondly it is important to then try and be content with the life you have:
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
If things in this world are making you sad then I want to encourage you to put your hope in God.
Finally it is important to meet with other people in the local area who also love God and want to live with him and his people. The Bible says do not neglect meeting with other people:
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
In summary the Bible teaches that we are made for communion with God and with God's people. If we do not know God or his people then we will feel sad and lonely. We are made for community and love and the church is a great place to meet new people.
