Ask a questionQ & A
Where is God?
What a great question! Thank you for asking submitting it to us.
In answer to this great mystery of God’s omnipresence I think we can say three things.
Firstly, in terms of God’s location in space and time the Bible clearly teaches that God is everywhere, all at once, at the same time. In other words, God does not have a bit of His arm on 1942 Western Australia and bit of His leg in 1672 England but, rather, as God is Spirit, He is fully present everywhere, all at once, at the same time; and I mean everywhere! He occupies the depths of both outer space and inner space and also is present in every conscious, subconscious and unconscious realm. It follows then that, even without the witness of both conscience and creation, God must also therefore occupy every perceived created realm such as cyberspace and virtual reality. God is everywhere, all at once, at the same time.
Secondly, as the Sovereign Lord of all Creation, God always 'above' us! He rules from heaven, his special dwelling place. Of course, being on a round planet, one man’s up is another man’s down, if you know what I mean. Nevertheless, positionally speaking, God’s rule, God’s seat of Government is always ‘above’ us in heaven.
Thirdly, God the Holy Spirit dwells particularly in the hearts and lives of those who confess Jesus as Saviour and Lord. In a very special way, the Son of God is in their midst as they meet together for worship and fellowship. In fact, as true Christians, we know that God is in us and with us, never, ever to leave us or forsake us.
I was once a nuclear submariner and I can testify to the truth of these following verses:
If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, Even there Your hand shall lead me. (Psalm 139:9-10)
God is everywhere!
