Ask a questionQ & A
I heard a story of a Sergeant listening to the military radio at night and by morning was a born again Christian. How do people suddenly find God?
Thank you for getting in touch with us with this important question. The story you tell in your question is very encouraging. It is wonderful to hear of someone whose life was changed by the power of Jesus Christ. I wonder whether you want to know if such an experience is available to you, too? If so, the answer is most definitely YES.
The message that led the Sergeant to Christ may have contained the following facts:
1. God created you and loves you absolutely, no matter who you are and what you have done.
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation [payment or atonement] for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
2. We human beings have failed to love and obey God. We are sinners.
All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
3. God's Son, Jesus, died on the cross to save us from the punishment we deserve and rose again, conquering death and sin, to give new life.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)
4. All we have to do is to believe in Jesus, trusting Him as our only hope of Heaven and inviting Him to enter our lives as our Lord and Saviour.
He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:11-13)
5. He does not turn away anyone who calls out to Him, but invites you to come. He says,
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." (Revelation 3:20)
Friends eat together. He will be your friend and feed you with spiritual food that will change your life completely.
Is this what you want? If so, He is waiting to do for you what He did for the sergeant - to change your life in an instant of time, making you, too, a born again Christian.
People can 'suddenly find God' because He has been looking for them, too, and is ready to come into their lives by His power, forgiving them and healing their hearts. It happened to me and it can happen to you.
In a way, it isn't always as sudden as it seems. They may have been thinking things over for quite a long time, seeking the truth. Perhaps that would be true of you. Then, one day, they encounter the truth about Jesus Christ and He changes everything for them when He enters their lives and hearts. The Bible says,
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! (Psalm 34:8)

In closing, I want to encourage you to do two things. One is to get a Bible or New Testament and read the Gospel of John. You can find out where it is by looking at the index at the beginning. The other is to get involved with a good local church. You could speak to a Christian leader or someone else you trust there, regarding your question. I know they would be delighted to explain things further, as well as pray for you and support you as you continue your spiritual journey: www.lookingforgod.com/churchfinder
