Ask a questionQ & A
I have lost faith and trust. How can I get it back?
Thank you for your question about faith. I can understand that sometimes our faith in Jesus seems low and we go through tough times. Many times I feel like shouting out the same phrase as the father in Mark 9:24 - “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
Even though we think it is down to us to ‘work’ up our faith, the Bible clearly teaches that faith is a gift from God – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
The best place to start is by asking the Lord to help your unbelief.
The Bible teaches that faith comes by hearing the Word of God: So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
It is by hearing the word of God that the gift of faith comes to us. Hearing the Word of God will mean reading it for yourself or going to a place where people are preaching or teaching the Word of God. When your faith is low this is often the last thing that we want to do! However this is the means of grace that God has given for faith to come to us – the Word of God.
As you come under the Word you will again see the character of God, the promises of God and what God has graciously done for you in Jesus and this will in turn cause you to trust God, which is the true essence of faith.
