Ask a questionQ & A
Why did God give me great wealth and success only to let me lose it all? I said prayers, I gave thanks and testified. Why did I lose it all?
Thank you for your question and testimony. I am sorry to hear that you have suffered a difficult time and are questioning God.
Firstly I want to say that the situation you face is not God's fault. He is not the cause of your loss. God does not punish us with loss of successes, family or possessions. This can be seen in one of the oldest books of the Bible, Job. Job loses his house, family, health and wealth. He questions why this has happened but does not blame God. Consider these verses:
Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong (Job 1:20-22)
Secondly I want to challenge your view that God will bless you if you pray, give or testify. God is not like a earthly boss or teacher. He does not give us good if we are good or bad if we are bad. The Bible teaches that none of us deserve anything from God because of our sin, but that in His great love and mercy, He gives us grace, forgiveness and new life through Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn it or lose it. God gives freely to His people. God is not a magic genie, fairy or Santa Claus; He is a loving, sovereign ruler.
Instead of blaming God I pray that you will know His comfort and peace in these difficult times. Cry out to Him for help instead of blaming Him. Trust Him instead of doubting Him. May God bless you with Himself.
