In this life changing story, Judith talks openly about her struggles with breast cancer, the impact it had on her family, and how God has been with them through this journey…
“The worst year of my life started on 15th May 2007 – I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The day I was diagnosed, my sixteen year-old twins started their GCSE exams, which stretched out for another month.
How would they deal with it? Would they still be able to focus on their exams? My husband and son, the twins…how would they cope while I went through surgery?
Strength. Day by day God gave us all the strength to deal with it. Over the weeks and months as I read UCB’s Word for Today, God had so much to say…
‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 29:11)
…just the right encouragement at a time when I needed hope for the future. I was learning how adversity was challenging my faith and my resilience.
The list is endless – day after day, God spoke to me through The Word For Today – about rejoicing in suffering, finding power in peace, and remembering that God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in times of trouble.
I finished radiotherapy treatment and was surprised to find the post-treatment time difficult. What now? What did the future hold? Would I see my children marry and have children of their own? What was God’s purpose in my suffering?
Certainly it has brought me on a closer walk with Him, but what else? I still search for those answers. Every day God sends us opportunities for spiritual growth, disguised as problems.
Almost a year later and all is well. God has honoured the children with a string of A-grades in their exams. He has remained close to us and I know whatever the future holds. He will be there.”

The giant you are fighting today is not bigger than the God who is living within you. Failing does not make you a failure...quitting does...not seeing beyond it does...not learning from it does...not growing stronger because of it does.
